…but local campaigners are doing just that this Saturday The result in the General Election in Fermanagh & South Tyrone (FST) could hardly have been closer. Both Michelle Gildernew (Sinn Féin) and Rodney Connor (Independent) got 45.5% of the vote back in May. With 4 votes between them the result was taken to a costly electoral court. councils delay has gone to Poots

By now we should be well down the road for reorganisation of the local district councils in Northern Ireland from the 26 current district councils to the 11 council model. Sadly for some, though better for actual local democracy and relation of councillor to constituent, this has not happened. Lib Dems against scrapping the cap! – another signature

I have just joined the Lib Dems against scrapping the cap! group on Facebook. On the 12th of October 2010 Lord Browne published the findings of his review of Higher Education funding. The proposals include scrapping the current cap (meaning that some so called ‘elite degrees’ could cost £12,000 a year) and reducing funding for “less important” degrees. Changed times in East Belfast

It seems that times really have moved on in East Belfast. At the funeral of the mother of Naomi Long MLA in St Christopher’s Parish Church, Mersey Street there were at least three members of Sinn Féin, as well as an host of other politicians. That’s right, three Shinners in the heart of “Loyalist” East Belfast.  But things have not changed completely. Whilst in Mersey Street today, we had Sinn Féin politicians rubbing shoulders with the local police, the deputy First Minister is complaining about the actions of their boss, Sir Hugh Orde, the Chief Constable.
