Lib Dem Voice inspires me…

My renewed blogging and reading of blogs, particularly reading Lib Dem Voice has taken an unexpected turn (hopefully not a twist. Ed.) this morning, as I am now looking into gym membership. What? Yep, you did read that correctly, it’s a tad unlikely one is sure, but, um, with inspiration from Andrew Reeves‘ blog, you might understand why. Another Kerrigan? what is it about the surname Kerrigan and fit blokes? Anyone else remember ‘Sam’ the gay nurse in Casualty? If going to the gym gets me as fit as either Kerrigan, I’ll be very happy. Post updated 18 September 2012 … Continue reading Lib Dem Voice inspires me…

another HIV scam

The HIV Support Centre‘s news page has the following story, thought others might want to hear about what scams are out there for people living with HIV. The Food Standards Agency warned against ‘Miracle Mineral Solution‘ claims that it cures cancer and HIV. On the Mirror‘s website Andrew Penman writes: The Miracle Mineral Solution cure that could make you very sick Meet Jim Humble, a “bishop” who reckons that he can cure the sick – by getting them to drink bleach. For around £10 you can buy a bottle of Miracle Mineral Solution online. According to Humble’s website, it has … Continue reading another HIV scam

2½ hrs out of work for medical reasons – I think not!

This afternoon whilst attending the treatment room once again – well it is still daily – one of the nurses asked me if I was working… Funnily enough, I said , No, the doctor gave me a ‘line’ for 4 weeks – and it would be odd to return to work without her agreement The nurse then asked how often do you come here? Couldn’t you work and come here? I then explained, nearly in words of one syllable, that I was attending (see not quite one syllable…) for the dressing to be changed daily during Monday to Friday. And … Continue reading 2½ hrs out of work for medical reasons – I think not!

update on Duncan

Thank you everyone who has been thinking about or praying for brother Duncan. According to my mother he has started to eat again, seems to be a diet of grapes that she takes him, but at least it is eating. Hopefully, the Health & Social Care service will start working with him – or possibly the other way around – to try and sort out what needs to be sorted out. Continue reading update on Duncan

can Scotland learn from Northern Ireland?

On Saturday I took the opportunity of attending Scottish Liberal Democrat Conference in Dunfermline. There were a number of people there that I had not seen for some time, as well as new people to meet. During one lunchtime fringe event organised by LTCAS the Long Term Conditions Association Scotland, the subject of the conflicts between the health service budgets run by the Scottish Government and Social Care budgets run by local councils came up. I had just written a question, handed it to the chair, when Maddy Halliday, Director, Stroke Scotland, the Scottish part of Stroke Association said: Perhaps … Continue reading can Scotland learn from Northern Ireland?

failure of cannabis prohibition – US government data demonstrates this

“Alcohol and tobacco are far more dangerous drugs than cannabis, but no one is being killed in an alcohol or cigarette black market because those drugs are legal, regulated and taxed.” Joseph D. McNamara Retired Chief of Police for San Jose, California Back in August I signed The Vienna Declaration to show my support for the ending of the prohibition of drugs. A new report issued by the International Centre for Science in Drug Policy (ICSDP) today entitled: Tools for debate: U.S. federal government data on cannabis prohibition uses US government data to show the clear failure of United States … Continue reading failure of cannabis prohibition – US government data demonstrates this

Belfast HSC Trust does it again…

It was very lucky that I was at my parents’ house as a phone call came in to the house asking to speak to my father. Well he can certainly listen – but that’s not good enough when they want to know if he can make an appointment tomorrow. What is particularly annoying is that if I had not been here, he would not have been seen tomorrow to check his condition, and it seems he should have been seen in September. I should explain. Dad had a number of quite major strokes back in March 2008, during a course … Continue reading Belfast HSC Trust does it again…

Duncan – a brother in torment

Further to my post about the rescue of my brother, Duncan, from Slieve Donard, I am asking for prayers for him. This evening the emergency doctor was out to him because his GP was sufficiently worried about him. Unfortunately, the emergency doctor said that he didn’t feel able to section Duncan tonight as he didn’t know him well enough. As we left him this evening, knowing that his own GP will be out to see him in the morning, I said to our other brother Peter that Duncan really didn’t look like, or even sound like my brother Duncan. It … Continue reading Duncan – a brother in torment

PSNI MMRT get gold stars: Belfast HSC Trust does not

This weekend has been a very difficult one for my family. This evening I would like to say a very big thank you to the members of the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team who trekked up Slieve Donard late on Friday evening/early on Saturday morning to find my brother, D-, who was up on the mountain with very little protection. Stephen’s post yesterday evening about suicide was very timely. D- is in a very bad way at the moment. However, other than the Mountain Rescue Team to thank, the Police Service of Northern Ireland in B district have been very very … Continue reading PSNI MMRT get gold stars: Belfast HSC Trust does not

Translink needs to work on access for disabled on buses

Having been falling asleep on the number 4a bus on the way home from the appointments of the day, I was very much awake when the bus driver let one person off at our stop, but then proceeded to drive on without letting myself, and my two escorts off as well – indeed we were still on the stairs at the time. I shouted No. STOP Everyone looked a bit surprised on the bus. Stephen says that those on the top deck (where he still was) were asking Did the driver just drive off there? And with the answer in … Continue reading Translink needs to work on access for disabled on buses
