For it is the one that will legitimise witch-hunts against gay clergy; it is the one that will allow gay people to be excluded from Holy Communion; and it demeans the relationships of remarried divorcees. Armagh wins in Diamond Jubilee competition

The long wait is over, no Northern Ireland town will be granted city status by Her Majesty in this the Diamond Jubilee Year. However, the Province will have another Lord Mayor. No longer will we be able to refer to the Lord Mayor and mean The Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of Belfast. Armagh has a long and distinguished history as the ecclesiastical capital of the island of Ireland. Both the Church of Ireland and the Catholic Church have an Archbishop there. UFOs observed in Queen’s Quarter

Last night, whilst most of Northern Ireland’s political bloggers were finding out about the stars of the Slugger Awards in the Cathedral Quarter of the city, some 50 or 60 people were observing UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects), aliens, planets, and stars in the Queen’s Quarter.

There was, however, some connexion between what was happening in Hill Street and in Elmwood Avenue. Three of the four of us that had been involved with the Hammering Out of the Slugger Awards were actually in one location and not the other. As the last hours of the year of our Salvation 2009 are drawing the year to a close, it has been announced that His Eminence Cahal, Cardinal Daly, former Lord Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, has died in hospital in Belfast surrounded by his family and friends. Pray for Ireland’s senior Cardinal

As news is breaking that Ireland’s most senior Cardinal is seriously ill in hospital, let us pray that His Eminence Cahal, Cardinal Daly gets well soon. His Eminence, formerly Lord Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All-Ireland (having been translated there in 1990 from Down & Connor, and to there from Ardagh and Clonmacnoise in 1982 where he would have known the Longford Cathedral now gutted) retired in 1996 and was succeeded by His Eminence Seán, Cardinal Brady.
