love between two persons… is to be treasured and respected

The word ‘love’ must never be thought of as synonymous with the word ‘sex’. Love can take many forms…love between two persons, whether of the same sex or of a different sex, is to be treasured and respected. - Dom Basil, Cardinal Hume 1923 - 1999

It’s funny what you find on the internet about yourself…

This morning when I was surfing, I found two disturbing threads on two particularly disturbing forums. One was really a repost of the other.

To quote someone hiding behind the name of “Credo”, on one of the sites

Day Six:
Devoted Father

One of the biggest hardships for Emperor Karl was the separation from his children as he and Empress Zita were sent into exile on Madeira. The children remained in Switzerland until Empress Zita, with many restrictions, could travel there and bring them back with her to Madeira. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Day Three: A Life of Sacrifice There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. By the time Blessed Emperor Karl was exiled to the island of Madeira his life was already one of making sacrifices for others. He lost his homeland, empire and throne. His own people confiscated his private money and possessions. Penniless, friendless, and unable to earn a living, he had a wife and seven children, with another one on the way, to support. He was forced to live under foreign control on a far away island in a disagreeably damp house … Continue reading There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

More bean bags we require. – Yoda

Yoda is not often found on Catholic blogs. Recently retired Jedi Master am I, not a Catholic. So like all the other charlatans on this website I am being. To attend the Old Mass do you wish, young Skywalker? Much have you to learn. Are you not realising what in the old days it was like? The priest was to the wall facing and in a dead language was he speaking. To turn back the clock it is not possible. Mm-Hmm. A meal is the Eucharist – a sacrifice it is not. To celebrate ourselves and each other’s love must … Continue reading More bean bags we require. – Yoda

SS Gregory & Augustine – restoration and renewal

Having served at SS Gregory & Augustine in north Oxford, and also sung there, both in the extraordinary form and the ordinary form of the Roman Rite, I am sorry that I missed last Sunday’s Mass as served by a friend. The priest in charge, Fr John Saward, has been instrumental in the restoration of his church, particularly by the installation of new paintings by James Gillick. Fr Saward has been one of the many priests in the Oxford area who are happy to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of The Mass using the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite. It … Continue reading SS Gregory & Augustine – restoration and renewal

Even on Christmas Day, the attacks on The Church continue…

The Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord is the day when we remember the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ as the child of Our Lady and St Joseph in Bethlehem. It is the day that we give thanks for the bringing down to earth from heaven the “Word made Flesh”. Attack on the Church in Ireland It is very sad to hear that in the early hours of this morning, the Cathedral Church of St Mel in Longford, Ireland, was gutted by fire. The Most Reverend Dr Colm O’Reilly, Lord Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise had celebrated Midnight … Continue reading Even on Christmas Day, the attacks on The Church continue…

thousands send clear message to criminals

As the thousands of people made their way to the various ICTU-organized Peace Rallies throughout Northern Ireland, the news was coming through that the Sovereign Pontiff, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, condemned the Northern Ireland Attacks.  Speaking after today’s general audience, Pope Benedict said:     “It was with deep sorrow that I learned of the murders of two young British soldiers and a policeman in Northern Ireland. As I assure the families of the victims and the injured of my spiritual closeness, I condemn in the strongest terms these abominable acts of terrorism which, apart from desecrating human life, seriously endanger … Continue reading thousands send clear message to criminals

News from Oxford

Gyronny has heard from his source in Oxford that the Latin Mass Society of England and Wales has lost its chairman and chaplain. The  loss of Julian Chadwick and the Rev. Msgr Anthony Conlon from its ranks is to be lamented. They both contributed plenty over the last few years to the society. Further information can be found on Damian Thompson’s blog (of The Daily Telegraph).  Further news from the city of the dreaming spires is that in the Eternal City, a certain humble priest of the Archdiocese of Westminster is to be made a Monsignor. The exact rank is not … Continue reading News from Oxford
