twelfth century precursor of television

Saint Clare was born Chiara Offreduccio in Assisi in 1194. She followed her fellow citizen, Saint Francis, in a life of poverty and became mother and foundress of an order of nuns, the “Poor Clares” in Assisi. The Poor Clares were devoted to Our Lord and led a very active and fulfilling life, even though their convent was kept silent most of the time for prayer. Saint Agnes, Clare’s biological sister, joined the order along with her sister shortly after it was founded. One of the most significant miracles attributed to Clare happened when an army of soldiers raided Assisi … Continue reading twelfth century precursor of television

Four prayers to St Philip: prayer 2 – Bl. John Henry Newman

O my dear and holy Patron, Philip, I put myself into thy hands, and for the love of Jesus, for that love’s sake, which chose thee and made thee a saint, I implore thee to pray for me, that, as He has brought thee to heaven, so in due time He may take me to heaven also. And I ask of thee especially to gain for me to a true devotion such as thou hadst to the Holy Ghost, the Third Person in the Ever-blessed Trinity; that, as He at Pentecost so miraculously filled thy heart with his grace, I … Continue reading Four prayers to St Philip: prayer 2 – Bl. return the Crown Estate money to the Queen

The furore about the Royal Finances in recent days should be really quite easy to fix. Stop the Civil List system, and return the surplus from the Crown Estates to Her Majesty The Queen. After all, if it is Crown property then Her Majesty should be allowed to benefit from it. There is no prohibition on HRH The Prince of Wales in respect of his rights as Duke of Cornwall, so why does Her Majesty? Do we actually know what HM Treasury has done with this money in recent years? I don’t think so. No transparency there. For reference: The … Continue reading return the Crown Estate money to the Queen

lead, kindly light… Pope Benedict XVI

Sadly, due to illness, I was unable to use the ticket that I had been granted to attend the Vigil in Hyde Park, but thanks to the wonders of the internet, I was able to lie, sit, and kneel at a friend’s house in East Belfast to watch. Afterwards, he remarked that what the Holy Father said was not that far away from what could be said in a Christadelphian exhortation. If this is how close we are together, then there really is hope for Christian unity. The text of the homily given by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to … Continue reading lead, kindly light… Pope Benedict XVI

We were made to receive love… also to give love. – Pope Benedict XVI

The words of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to the young people outside The Cathedral of the Most Precious Blood, Westminster, today. Thank you for your warm welcome! “Heart speaks unto heart” – cor ad cor loquitur – as you know, I chose these words so dear to Cardinal Newman as the theme of my visit. In these few moments that we are together, I wish to speak to you from my own heart, and I ask you to open your hearts to what I have to say. I ask each of you, first and foremost, to look into your … Continue reading We were made to receive love… also to give love. – Pope Benedict XVI

let them die rather than commit a mortal sin, Amen!

Day Six:
Devoted Father

One of the biggest hardships for Emperor Karl was the separation from his children as he and Empress Zita were sent into exile on Madeira. The children remained in Switzerland until Empress Zita, with many restrictions, could travel there and bring them back with her to Madeira. Continue reading “let them die rather than commit a mortal sin, Amen!”

It is so good to have faith in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Without it, the hardships would be impossible to withstand.

Day Two: An Emperor Devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, form our hearts to be like Your Heart. On October 2, 1918, Blessed Karl consecrated himself and his family to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Through his suffering from being misjudged, slandered, and persecuted, his willingness to sacrifice his life for his peoples, his exile, and through his painful, fatal illness, Emperor Karl allowed his heart to be formed in union with the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Even in exile and sickness the Emperor took to heart his duties as monarch and father … Continue reading It is so good to have faith in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I must go to see if the altar light is still burning.

Day One: Reverence for the Most Blessed Sacrament Blessed Karl lived under the glory of the Blessed Sacrament. The rays of grace from this splendor attracted him, and he loved to visit the tabernacle. Whether stressed by the strains of government or just the ordinary beginning of his day, he sought guidance and solace before Jesus Christ in the tabernacle. Wherever he lived, he sought to have a private chapel where the Blessed Sacrament could be reserved. His devotion to the Eucharist manifested itself even in small details, such as his concern that the sanctuary lamp should never be allowed … Continue reading I must go to see if the altar light is still burning.
