Stephen has problems with language…

Stephen Glenn has made comment about the comments of others surrounding the use of language in the past few days. But perhaps we should question his own use of language… On LGBT+ Lib Dems Northern Ireland he says: In some countries like Spain for example the Priest is not apple to marry anyone (as such) that has been carried out by a government employee already. His sentence does not quite say what I think he meant. My understanding of his argument on this in the past suggests to me that what he may have meant to say is: In some … Continue reading Stephen has problems with language…

I’m amazed: I’m 48

Forty-eight not in years of age but ranking in the Total Politics Blog Awards in the Lib Dem Bloggers category. I really, really, did not expect to be in the top 50 at all. So thank you to everyone who voted for me, and with a new lease of life having rested a bit over the summer, who knows where we all will be next year. Congratulations go to fellow Northern Irish Lib Dem blogger Stephen Glenn, who once more is at number 5. And as we all know, we lost Andrew Reeves this year. So it is great to … Continue reading I’m amazed: I’m 48

Today is brought to you by the numbers 72, 66 and 5…

The Total Politics Blogger Top 100 Lib Dem blogs 2011 list is out. Much to my surprise, Gyronny Herald comes out at number 66, the collaborative Liberal Democrats in Northern Ireland blog comes in at number 72 (up from 75 last year), and Stephen Glenn’s Stephen’s Liberal Journal comes romping in at number 5 which is two up from on last year. The full list can be seen here: There are a few quirks in the list including the interloper The Will Patterson Notebook from the SNP! And lucky Craig Murray being in at number 40 and number 100. I suspect that there … Continue reading Today is brought to you by the numbers 72, 66 and 5…

Court may not have ordered a re-run…

…but local campaigners are doing just that this Saturday The result in the General Election in Fermanagh & South Tyrone (FST) could hardly have been closer. Both Michelle Gildernew (Sinn Féin) and Rodney Connor (Independent) got 45.5% of the vote back in May. With 4 votes between them the result was taken to a costly electoral court. Would a vote using the Alternative Vote (AV) have made the result any clearer? Would it have made a difference? Stephen Glenn, Northern Ireland Organiser, and the Yes to  Fairer Votes team will be running a re-run* of the FST parliamentary election by … Continue reading Court may not have ordered a re-run…

Off to Enniskillen for the day – 27NOV10

This Saturday I will be going with Stephen Glenn, and the others in the Yes to Fairer Votes campaign team to the seat of the closest result in this year’s Parliamentary Election. Hopefully we will be able to highlight how the Alternative Vote system would have ensured that, while the MP elected may not have been different, at least she would have had a proper majority. Pink Paper fails its Northern Ireland readership

I want to reassure my friend Stephen that he is most certainly ‘not the only gay in the Province’. Although I suspect that the TUV and others would almost certainly wish that he were. Indeed, I am only now getting to see his post as this morning I was with other representatives of the Northern Ireland LGBT Sector including from The Rainbow Project, NIGRA, and Cara-Friend at a meeting with Will Kerr, Asssistant Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, regarding the forward working of the LGBT Independent Advisory Group to the PSNI. It was certainly clear there … Continue reading Pink Paper fails its Northern Ireland readership

congratulations, 2 pledges, lots of hard work #yes2av

First of all my congratulations are in order to my friend and colleague who many of you will know has been appointed Campaigns Manager for Northern Ireland in the Yes to Fairer Votes campaign. As you may have guessed, this is the job that both he and I were interviewed for on Monday. On Monday evening, he and I pledged ourselves to work together with who ever was appointed to ensure that we have the best possible campaign in Northern Ireland to make the small change that will make a big difference on May 5th. The Fairer Votes Belfast page … Continue reading congratulations, 2 pledges, lots of hard work #yes2av
