I’m about to start doing some telephoning – but it seems that a certain organisation for whom I will be telephoning does not seem to understand that telephone numbers in Northern Ireland are eight digits long with a three-digit STD number. Therefore they should be displayed as
(028) 1234 5678
not
(281) 234-5678
It’s not as if this has changed in recent months – they changed on 22 April 2000 as part of the Big Number changes when London numbers changed to
(020) 7123 4567 – Inner London
0r
(020) 8123 4567 – Outer London
Not looking forward to having to explain this to volunteers.

Most people still use 028xx xxxxxx – even or especially the Civil Service. It bugs me.
