If you are out and about in the navigational waters around the island of Ireland in fog from today onwards, do not hope to hear the comforting sound of a fog horn from any of the lighthouses.

That is right, all the fog horns have been switched off.

The Commissioners of Irish Lights having carried out a review have decided that

one cannot navigate with a fog signal
