Saturdays in June look like they are going to be good for people who don’t already have a Translink Smart card. A £1 cash single fare (after 9.30a.m.) on the Metro system is a significant reduction of roughly 40% on the normal cash fare within the city zone.
It is clear that Translink are continuing to attempt to persuade people to use smart cards for their travel within the city of Belfast. This is good as it helps to protect the drivers from robbery attempts. However, we need to see investment in the system to allow proper ‘top-up’ online. At present if you go to pay for a top up online you get told that you have to do it three days in advance, and then a new card will be posted out to you… If it can be done in London with the Oyster card, why not here? I’m sure I remember Ted Hesketh telling me about this technology back in 2000.
Time for Danny Kennedy MLA, to start investing in public transport ticketing, me thinks.
