We’ve gone from three dwellings to threeone in five weeks. That’s quite an undertaking for anyone, but when you consider that of those five weeks, one of us was working in The Netherlands for two weeks of them and one of us was in Bedford for ten days, the acheivement seems to become that bit more significant. Of course why we were at three becoming one and not two becoming one is because of a landlord giving us ‘Notice to Quit’ just as we were bringing our two sets of belongings together and then had to find somewhere else for us to live after November quite quickly.
Within three days of receiving the Notice to Quit, I had researched, visited, and signed the Tenancy Agreement on our new apartment. That was nearly a month ago. On occasion change can be quite quick – but only on occasion.
As of this afternoon all our property is now under one roof. That’s two libraries becoming one – and I’m sitting typing this post in the room that is to become our Library (and Study); two sets of saucepans and cooking utensils becoming one (two kettles (if not three) and two toasters, etc; and two sets of clothes to find space for.
I am, however, feeling quite pleased with myself. This evening I prepared three meals. One meal for Andrew, our friend John, and myself which we enjoyed eating tonight at our own dining table. The second meal is for tomorrow evening when we get back from work. It is sitting ready to be cooked whilst we are out at work. I’ll update everyone tomorrow with how it went. Simple ingredients of some breast of lamb, half a carrot, half an onion and some water. The cooking is being done in the slow cooker, so hopefully it should make an interesting meal, and you never know, even Andrew may enjoy some of it!
After dinner (chicken korma for two of us and cottage pie for one) there was coffee for two and diet coke for one, whilst I washed up – some family and friends may find this remarkable! And having made dinner, I then unpacked more of the kitchen utensils and crockery, found homes for them, and then prepared my lunch for tomorrow. Lunch for me ‘on the Hill’ will consist of ham, cheese, salad cream rolls with a Penguin bar and a packet of crisps. I’ll get a drink in The Blue Flax restaurant when there.
Our thanks must be given to all those who have helped us moved our belongings: John, Pam, Stephen, each other, and not forgetting my mother. Without you we could not have done this our appreciation is so great. We will miss our friends in The Hamlets, but we look forward to meeting our new neighbours in the new building.
