Tonight, I ought to have gone to bed early, but on Facebook (via Wipe Out Homophobia) a link caught my eye. I visited it, and I have just finished watching an inspirational film.
Prayers for Bobby tells of a mother who has to work to reconcile her beliefs about homosexuality and the death of her gay son by suicide. It is based on a book by Leroy Aarons. Although we don’t really have much room left for books in our flat – perhaps someone will buy me the book.
Some quotes which stood out for me during the film were:
… love the son no matter what the sin. —Jeanette
and
Bobby—I know my mum means well, but I don’t know if she will ever accept it.
David—Just don’t stop trying.
and finally from Mary Griffith, Bobby’s mother
Before you echo Amen in your home or place of worship, think and remember. A child is listening.
The DVD appears to be only available in Region 1 version which is not very helpful to those us here in Europe. However, it is on youtube.

You hadn’t seen Prayers for Bobby?
Such a brilliant film. So tragic and uplifting.
