It is not that difficult to know the difference between a Scout badge and a Guide badge, or so I thought. ITV have made a rather glaring error when they have illustrated their story about the new Girl Guide Promise in the UK with a photograph of a Scout uniform!

- The World Badge of Scouts.
Whoops!

Sadly we have witnessed the final demise of girl guiding. With the with the removal of any reference to faith , and the removal of service to country on their promise, the founding principles of BP, Girlguiding had just become another youth club and a segregated one at that. You can bet your pension the scouts will certainly follow.

I for one, certainly hope that The Scout Association will not follow. We wait to hear the results of the consultation on the Scout Promise that started earlier in the year.

Scouting I believe (and clearly Guiding) has fallen to the aggressive lobbying of the secularists and republicans (in the UK anti monarchy sense of the word) those who singularly fail to appreciate that the movement BP founded is DIFFERENT to all the other youth club activities set up because it has rules and promises and laws, all of which are exactly what made/makes it so unique. Changing the promise will simply reduce it just another youth body, stripping away any historical or moral authority it had to influence, guide and teach young people. I know I am a dinosaur in the eyes of scouting these days, but if the promises changes not to include a faith or duty to the Queen (and by default the country), then it is absolutely not a movement for me any more. In my view the Scout Association has traded on its own ‘hype’ and not substance and morality for a long time, any promise change will take away even that.
