🇮🇪 11 November — A Day of Remembrance and Renewal
Today, we pause to honour the memory of those who gave their lives in war, and we celebrate a new chapter in Irish public life. On this Armistice Day, as poppies are worn and silence observed, we also welcome our newly inaugurated President, Catherine Connolly, to Áras an Uachtaráin.
🌺 Armistice Day
Across the island, people gathered for ceremonies of remembrance — from the National War Memorial Gardens in Dublin to services in Belfast and Londonderry. Wreaths were laid, heads bowed, and the Last Post sounded. It’s a day to reflect on the cost of conflict and the value of peace, and to remember all those who served, especially the thousands of Irish men and women who died in the Great War and subsequent conflicts.
👤 President Catherine Connolly
In a stirring ceremony at Dublin Castle, Catherine Connolly was sworn in as the 10th President of Ireland. A proud Galwegian and long-time champion of social justice, she spoke of building a republic rooted in dignity, equality, and care. Her words struck a chord:
“Let us be brave enough to imagine a country where everyone belongs, where no voice is left unheard.”
She takes office with a deep grá for the Irish language, for community, and for the values that bind us together.
💬 A Shared Moment
As we mark Armistice Day and welcome a new Uachtarán, we’re reminded of the importance of memory and hope. Ireland stands tall today — remembering the past, and looking forward with courage and compassion.
