Spiritual Communion

by Raphael Cardinal Merry del Val At Thy feet, O my Jesus, I prostrate myself and I offer Thee repentance of my contrite heart, which is humbled in its nothingness and in Thy holy presence. I adore Thee in the Sacrament of Thy love, the ineffable Eucharist. I desire to receive Thee into the poor dwelling that my heart offers Thee. While waiting for the happiness of sacramental communion, I wish to possess Thee in spirit. Come to me, O my Jesus, since I, for my part, am coming to Thee! May Thy love embrace my whole being in life … Continue reading Spiritual Communion

Jesus our Life – part one

O Jesus, life of my soul, make me rise each day to a new life of charity and fervor. In the Mass of today [Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost] there is a dominant thought, so often repeated in the liturgy and so clear to our hearts: Jesus is our life. Without Jesus we would abide … Continue reading Jesus our Life – part one

I was fortunate to be able to attend the Ordinariate’s Mass in Holy Rood Church, South Oxford, in the diocese of Portsmouth when I was in Oxford recently. Mgr Andrew Burnham was the celebrant and had acquired a number of the new mass booklets in Latin and in English as published by the Catholic Truth … Continue reading Preparing for Advent 2011 – part one

twelfth century precursor of television

Saint Clare was born Chiara Offreduccio in Assisi in 1194. She followed her fellow citizen, Saint Francis, in a life of poverty and became mother and foundress of an order of nuns, the “Poor Clares” in Assisi. The Poor Clares were devoted to Our Lord and led a very active and fulfilling life, even though their convent was kept silent most of the time for prayer. Saint Agnes, Clare’s biological sister, joined the order along with her sister shortly after it was founded. One of the most significant miracles attributed to Clare happened when an army of soldiers raided Assisi … Continue reading twelfth century precursor of television
