ERS bodges by numbers

As a child I learnt to paint by numbers, the Electoral Reform Society appears to have bodged by numbers. As some of you may know that I have been helping with the Yes to Fairer Votes campaign in Northern Ireland. We have an event this Saturday in Enniskillen where we are planning to have a sample of voters to ‘re-run the Westminster election in Fermanagh & South Tyrone’. In order to prepare the ballot papers for Saturday, I went to the Electoral Reform Society‘s website to find out what they would recommend a ballot paper to look like when using … Continue reading ERS bodges by numbers

Daily Mail appears to tell lies…

It is rare of me to be reading the Daily Mail’s website, but the headline about the Tories putting up a candidate in the Oldham East & Saddleworth election following the ruling of the Election Court with regard to Phil Woolas. The Daily Mail seems to think that it was a ‘by-election’ that was tainted. Let’s hope that those responsible for writing headlines could actually attempt to be accurate. After all, we wouldn’t want anyone accused of telling lies now. And as for the content of the story. Well it is hardly surprising that all the parties appear to be … Continue reading Daily Mail appears to tell lies…

Yes to fairer votes conference call later on

Looking forward to the Yes to Fairer Votes conference call this evening. Britain needs a fairer way of electing our leaders. On May 5th, 2011, we’ll get a unique chance – the Yes Campaign will lead the fight for fairer votes. We will represent supporters of all parties, and none. We will bring together people of all walks of life – teachers, nurses, transport workers, shop owners, students – to make the case for a democracy where everyone’s vote matters. Our country will be stronger when our democracy is more vibrant. If you would like to join the campaign for … Continue reading Yes to fairer votes conference call later on

Let’s look at the figures… Read the rest of the article here. UPDATE: Stephen Glenn has just asked First Past What Post? Continue reading blogged elsewhere: when 40% equals the winner
