DOH2AV – twitter and website fail

A quick lesson to those in the NO2AV DOH2AV campaign HQ.

Not all your followers on twitter actually support you.

The NO2AV DOH2AV Advocates page had until very recently, some twitter avatars of people that they are portraying as supporters of theirs. Sadly, this included many people who are part of the Yes to Fairer Votes campaign.

NO2AV Fail
NO2AV make clumsy error over who supports them.

Now, anyone who goes to check on this site now, will find that the twitter avatar strip has been removed. Continue reading “DOH2AV – twitter and website fail”

Expensive counting machines necessary: bunkum!

There are many reasons being given in many places across the internet and print media why the British voter should not be voting Yes in the Referendum on the Voting System for the members of the House of Commons. However, one of them today caught my eye. On the Telegraph website, Daniel Hannan, has stated that AV IS EXPENSIVE Under AV we won’t be able to count ballot papers by hand on election night if we want a quick, decisive election result. Local councils will have to purchase electronic counting machines that are very expensive and prone to malfunction. However, … Continue reading Expensive counting machines necessary: bunkum!

posted elsewhere: give some time to make a call to give yourself a stronger voice

Today the Northern Ireland campaign team was attending the Ulster Unionist Conference in the Ramada Hotel in Belfast, meeting MLAs, councillors and members. In other parts of the United Kingdom, the Yes to Fairer Votes campaign was launching its first wave of 50 phonebanks across the country. The phonebanking operation constitutes the most ambitious direct voter contact programme in British political history and we are aiming to speak to more voters than all the political parties did combined at the general election. This grassroots led strategy is reliant upon normal people volunteering an hour or two a month of their … Continue reading posted elsewhere: give some time to make a call to give yourself a stronger voice

posted elsewhere: it’s off to conference again with us.

Today is Ulster Unionist Party conference – so Stephen Glenn, Regional Organiser for Yes to Fairer Votes and Michael Carchrie Campbell, one of the Volunteer Coordinators are heading up the team to go and canvas UUP opinion. Ulster Unionists believe in Standing up for Northern Ireland securing devolved government for this part of the United Kingdom – and that devolution will secure Northern Ireland’s place within a modern United Kingdom. Yes to Fairer Votes campaigners believe in a modern United Kingdom securing a modern working Parliamentary democracy where elections are fought and won fairly. There should be common ground between … Continue reading posted elsewhere: it’s off to conference again with us.

Court may not have ordered a re-run…

…but local campaigners are doing just that this Saturday The result in the General Election in Fermanagh & South Tyrone (FST) could hardly have been closer. Both Michelle Gildernew (Sinn Féin) and Rodney Connor (Independent) got 45.5% of the vote back in May. With 4 votes between them the result was taken to a costly electoral court. Would a vote using the Alternative Vote (AV) have made the result any clearer? Would it have made a difference? Stephen Glenn, Northern Ireland Organiser, and the Yes to  Fairer Votes team will be running a re-run* of the FST parliamentary election by … Continue reading Court may not have ordered a re-run…

FPTPvsAV – daily news about the campaign for fairer votes

Many people are working away for the Yes for Fairer Votes campaign up and down the country. Indeed I’m off to Enniskillen on Saturday with the NI campaign team. Some lucky few even get paid for it. Others of us are just working away getting the message out. One thing I can recommend is Paul Perrin‘s Electoral Reform FPTPvsAV paper on the Paper.li system. Now today I am quoted as a result of my article ERS bodges by numbers posted yesterday evening. Thank you very much to Paul for this. And keep up the good work*. * N.B. I am … Continue reading FPTPvsAV – daily news about the campaign for fairer votes

Off to Enniskillen for the day – 27NOV10

This Saturday I will be going with Stephen Glenn, and the others in the Yes to Fairer Votes campaign team to the seat of the closest result in this year’s Parliamentary Election. Hopefully we will be able to highlight how the Alternative Vote system would have ensured that, while the MP elected may not have been different, at least she would have had a proper majority.
