August 13

It’s the middle of the night here and, once again, I can’t sleep. It’s not that I haven’t tried everything… mint tea hot chocolate counting sheep just lying reading… Nothing is working. I’m getting fed up of this now. And in the morning, I get to have my increased dose of “happy pill” – now 20mg Citalopram every morning. Continue reading August 13

Food continues to be an issue. Yesterday, I was really bad. I only had a bag of sweets and a banana. Well not entirely. I had some “cornish” pasties (made in Belfast not Callington!) and some cake at lunch time. At least the meds are still being taken. Which is good. Still getting pains in legs and joints in general, though yesterday the worst was the pain in my head, which mean that I am very slow when walking. This really is an annoyance as have to remember to pace myself. Continue reading July 27

Another day, another post. After yesterday’s good news, I can simply say that I feel much better. And I am even eating. I’m not quite sure whether it is simply the news about my viral load that has lifted my spirits or whether it is a mixture of that and support from various sources. Whatever, it is working. For the moment. Continue reading July 22

Frontier crossing points – approved or unapproved?

Yesterday saw me crossing the international frontier on my way to Castle Leslie, Glaslough, County Monaghan. The most direct rout according to my Road Atlas and also according to Googlemaps was take the M1 motorway to Dungannon, turn left for Caledon, in Caledon, turn right, take the first left, cross the frontier and drive to Glaslough. Simple enough. Or so you’d think. Down the lane and find it’s blocked! Both sets of maps showed that the B45 (NI) turned into the R185 (Éire). However, I turned down the road from Caledon but it became apparent that this road was not … Continue reading Frontier crossing points – approved or unapproved?

St Etheldreda’s Day Today is St Etheldreda’s Day. The day that the Church remembers a holy Abbess in Ely, Cambridgeshire. It is the day I remember a friend of mine called Etheldreda. And remember that I have forgotten to send a card to her – I’ll have to do that later this afternoon. Hospital Clinic Last month when I was given the date for today’s appointment I mentioned that it was St Etheldreda’s day and the doctor looked at me a bit funny. I’m rather good with dates – name a day and I’ll probably be able to know what … Continue reading June 23

A better morning after the night before Last evening was a good night in lots of ways. First of all I had been chatting to a friend most of the evening online and this had helped cheer me up all night. Secondly, I managed to not cry myself to sleep. This morning I woke up when my mother came into the room – yup I’m staying at theirs for a bit. So there was porridge for breakfast and I’m sure there will be good wholesome food for lunch and tea. Remember, a boy’s best friend is his mother. And nothing … Continue reading June 20

Grammar school tests making parents ‘blackmail’

Education Crisis continues The apparent blackmailing of teachers in Northern Ireland’s primary schools is another shocking twist to the continuing debacle that has been caused by the lack of clarity from Sinn Féin Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane MLA. This has not been helped by the apparent incapability of the NI Executive to work together on any issue. Education committee hears of blackmail The news of the blackmail came today as the main teaching unions gave evidence to the Assembly’s Education Committee. Representatives of the NASUWT, UTU, ATL were at Stormont. They told of parents stating that unless pupils were ‘coached’ … Continue reading Grammar school tests making parents ‘blackmail’

It’s been a few days since I posted on here, but chatting to one mate on msn made me realise how much of a mask is still being worn by me. At night it gets taken off, and still I cry myself to sleep. I don’t know when this will stop – and i don’t know what will stop it. What I do know is that it didn’t happen when I spent the night with the fabulous new friend that I made a few months back. Hopefully there will be another cry free night soon. On Tuesday, I’ve to go … Continue reading June 19

Royal British Legion ask for Poppy to be removed from BNP leader’s lapel

Poppies in May The Royal British Legion has asked that Nick Griffin MEP, Chairman of the British National Party and newly elected MEP for the North West of England, to remove the poppy, the symbol of the Legion’s annual appeal, from his lapel. Dear Mr Griffin, We couldn’t help but notice that there was egg on your face (and on your suit jacket) on the day after you were elected MEP for North West England. Please don’t leave egg on ours. You wore a Poppy lapel badge during your news conference to celebrate your election victory. This was in direct … Continue reading Royal British Legion ask for Poppy to be removed from BNP leader’s lapel
