As many Scouts in the United Kingdom prepare for St George’s Day commemorations, The Sunday Times, has reported that The Scout Association (TSA) has plans to change the Scout Promise. It is sad that this story has been published today as many of us as members will be renewing our Promise as the Founder, Lord Baden-Powell OM asked. One of the biggest myths about Scouting is that Groups are closing down due to a lack of young people wanting to become Members. Nothing could be further from the truth; Scouting in the UK is a growing Movement and we currently have 30,000 young people on our waiting lists simply because we do not have enough adults to help out. As you know, last week I was called up to the Royal Victoria Hospital for an appointment. There was something more virulent about the MRSA that had caused my abscesses earlier in the year. The results show that what I had was PVL-MRSA. Or to spell it out… Panton-Valentine Leukocidin, MRSA. This is particularly nasty. And has meant that I have had particularly nasty abscesses that have had to be drained in emergency surgery, both times. It’s Friday night so….

It’s Friday afternoon and think that there should be some fun. So, Think you know about Scouting? Think again. I’m involved with Scouting in a number of roles, all of them as a volunteer. And having gained much as a Scout – even gaining my Queen’s Scout Award back in December 1997 – it feels like I am giving something back to the movement.
