Following an exchange between David Vance of the Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) and myself on Twitter last night, I agreed to read his work on the TUV’s response to the Energy consultation.
TUV appreciates that a balanced energy strategy is essential and that renewable energy has a role to play in this. However, we believe that the goals set in Energy A Strategic Framework For Northern Ireland are completely unrealistic.
In the Forward (sic) Minister Foster states that Northern Ireland will seek to achieve 40% of its electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2020. This target is repeated another seven times in the document.
Perhaps, this should read: “In the Foreword, the Minister states…”.
At the moment, 10% of electricity comes from renewable resources. To suggest that this can be quadrupled in 10 years in (sic) pure fantasy.
Surely they mean “is pure fantasy“?
What is pure fantasy is that the TUV can manage to put out a response to any consultation that is not just a rant against anything that is not the perceived ‘Norn Iron Prod in the Street’ view of anything. Just because they say something is true without referencing it in a response does not make it right. References are useful. See here for an example of a document referenced!
Perhaps they should consult with the Minister of Education, or even the Minister for Employment and Learning for extra tuition in the use of English?
As it is, I was laughing so much at these mistakes that I didn’t quite manage to read the rest of the document properly. Sorry David!
For those who like the abbreviated version, here’s Wordle take on it:
