Paramilitary style shooting in Ardoyne: help the police find those responsible

Man shot in legs in north Belfast

The news that a man has been shot in the legs in Ardoyne, in north Belfast in what police say is a ‘paramilitary style’ shooting is shocking.

The man said to be in his late 20s has been treated for gunshot wounds in hospital.

I totally condemn the actions of the three masked men who entered the house in Brompton Park and shot him.

The whole of our society needs to stand up to the thugs and scum who continue these attacks. Anyone with any information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible should pass this to the police.

If people have problems they should seek to resolve these issues by speaking to each other, or by contacting the relevant statutory authorities.

As Fr Dermott Harkin said in St Brigid’s Church in Londonderry at the weekend,

no-one has the right to take the law into their own hands, that all violence is wrong that all forms of abuse and cruelty meted out to any human being is against God’s law and an insult to a good and decent community of people.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has appealed for information which will lead to the arrest of these men. I fully support the PSNI in this call, and I urge anyone with information to contact the Police on 0845 600 8000.
