When you see me out and about on Wednesday, I’ll be wearing at least one of my Scout neckers. It’ll probably be my FLAGS unit necker in the rainbow colours in honour of Belfast Pride Festival which is currently in full swing. But why will I be doing this?

Well, it’s because of “World Scout Scarf Day” on which it is asked that

all active and former scouts are requested to wear their scout scarfs in public to make the “spirit of scouting” visible: once a scout – always a scout! In 2011 the day coincided with the World Jamboree in Sweden which was a perfect opportunity to show the close bond to all the scouts attending.

Of course, the scarf is only a symbol but a strong symbol for the scout promise and for our mission to leave the world as a bit better a place than we had found it.

It is even more appropriate at this time of the XXXth Olympiad. The Olympic Games are a hope for peace. The Scout Movement across the world is a movement for peace. B.-P. himself described Scouts as being “Peace Scouts”. So, if anyone reading this wants to join me in showing the Scouting spirit, just put on your Scout scarf as you are heading out on Wednesday.
